JOB DESCRIPTION
Resident Assistant
RA: Reports to Residential Director
Time Commitment: 100% of time for six weeks and staff training before summer component begins. Also includes 3-4 day out-of-state trip. This is a residential position.
Salary: $ 1,700
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a Junior or higher status in college, a recent college graduate, or graduate student with the ability to tutor and mentor high school students in either college preparatory math through pre-calculus, natural sciences, English, or foreign language. An applicant the age of 21 or over is preferred because of legal requirements of rental vehicles. Applicants must also possess strong comforability supervising high school students. Successful experience as a tutor, residential advisor, peer and/or camp counselor for adolescents is highly preferred. Personal interaction, sensitivity, the ability to be a team player, and leadership skills are essential. Resident Assistants are required to live in the residence hall with UB participants for 24-hour supervision.
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Act as a teacher assistant in one class.
Tutor students in residence hall and during scheduled tutoring time.
Work closely with staff and students in identifying and resolving student problems.
Enforce residence hall rules and regulations.
Submit all required reports to Resident Director.
Supervision of assigned group of students, including discipline, tutoring, guidance, and evaluation.
Assisting in development and implementation of program activities.
Daily attendance of classes with assigned students.
Attendance at weekly staff meetings: Residential staff meetings, and full program staff meetings (rotational), etc.
Assisting with supervision during recreation periods, program activities and trips, registration and move-out procedures.
Assist with distribution and collection of keys.
Daily monitoring of student rooms in residence hall for cleanliness, damage and contraband.
Participation in training workshops prior to start of summer component.
Physical Requirements
May require heavy lifting in preparation of the residence hall, and move in and out days.
May require strenuous physical activity during different community service projects such as shoveling, digging, trail maintenance, and dog walking.
May require walking sizeable distances during college tours, recreation activities, and end of summer trip.
