Job Title: Academic Coordinator, Opportunity Programs
Department: Opportunity Scholars Program
Reports To: Director of Opportunity Programs
FLSA Status: Exempt / Grade 7
Prepared By: Director of Opportunity Programs

SUMMARY: Responsible for coordinating and providing academic and support services for students who are Perkins eligible and/or students in the Opportunity Scholars Program to ensure academic success and retention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans, organizes, and implements the college and Opportunity Scholars Program (OSP) tutoring programs and the Academic Labs.

Recruits, hires, trains and supervises program tutors and the Academic Lab Assistants ensuring proper payment for services.

Maintains database of tutors and conducts quarterly tutor training sessions.

Evaluates academic services, makes necessary changes and checks tutor pay rates for increases on a quarterly basis.

Compiles and maintains documentation of Perkins, OSP and Learning Center eligibility for students receiving tutoring or using the Academic Labs and provides quarterly reports to document usage.

Assists in identification and selection of program participants for the OSP Program by conducting program presentations and intakes.

Maintains caseload of OSP participants; monitors academic progress, updates audit sheets and ensures proper documentation is on file and up-to-date.

Coordinates the Early Alert System for OSP students experiencing academic difficulties and contacts students to discuss plan of action and assigns tutors.

Develops and presents informational/educational workshops for OSP.

Assists with planning and coordination of educational and cultural activities/trips for “OSP” and acts as a chaperone.

Participates in and contributes information for the OSP Student Advisory Committee meetings.

Assists with support activities of the Opportunity Scholars Program including the Annual Recognition Program, the Trio Luncheon, College Orientation and Summer Bridge Program.

Coordinates the instruction and hires instructors for the Summer Bridge Orientation Program.

Provides academic advising/course selection and registration for OSP participants.

Prepares and submits reports as requested and provides data for reporting purposes.

Attends Trio and Tutoring meetings, conferences, and trainings as necessary.

Communicates in a positive manner with staff, faculty, and students and possesses skills as a Team Player.

Maintains liaison with college employees and community members regarding Perkins and Opportunity Scholars and the services available; serves on pertinent college committees.

Performs other duties consistent with the mission of the Perkins and OSP Programs, as assigned by the Director of Opportunity Programs.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Tutors and Academic lab assistants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree required. Training and/or experience in operating academic/tutoring programs and supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of databases and budgeting processes necessary. Experience in providing academic and/or support services to low-income, first-generation, and other non-traditional college students desirable. Presentation and teaching experience helpful.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with college and community constituents.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Competency in basic math.
